early 99 intercooler install help

So I did a quick Google search and cant come up with anything.... does anyone know the size of the brackets that need to be made to install the early 99 intercooler onto our trucks? And is there an issue with the pipe fitment? I ordered the boot kit from riff raff. I read tims install article and it shows pictures of some brackets but no size or anything. I'm not going to hAve a,welder on site so I need to have brackets pre made at the other shop if need be.

Are you asking about the width need to fit into the IC support? I used 1 1/4" angle iron and had to grind it down to about 1 1/8". You really want to have the welder with you since there is no set/right way to fab the mounts. It all depends on where you want the bolts to fit through the core support.

My understanding on the stock pipes is that they are too short.

The top you just need to have some scrap different sized angle and flat to see what will work. The bottom, NO idea how to tell you to make those. I'm not sure if the 99 IC has the same mount on the bottom as my 6.0 one does. On mine I made sure to mount the bottom to the core support also, so needed to do a little welding to make a bracket.

I bought 3 pipes and made 2 out of 3. IIRC the drivers needs to be lengthened a few inches, don't remember for sure on the pass side.

If you look at Tim's page again, you will see that he did detail how he made the lower brackets...

This picture shows the lower mounting brackets I fabricated. These consist of a section 2” angle iron, a section of 1” square tube (ends welded closed) and a piece of 3/16” steel added to the front of the square tube to make it match the width of the saddle on the intercooler. The forward-most surface of this bracket is 2-3/4” from the radiator support. This allowed room behind the I/C for the brace pictured above this photo.

I've seen some post that they work fine and some say they were to short... no real answer so far on that and yea tims gives sizes of stock he used but no size of how much to cut etc... so I guess I'll just do lockouts and one location and the intercooler at the other
