I have a 95 F-150 and I am very dissappointed in the seat. I think whoever owned the truck before me must have been a big person because I literally sink in the seat. I guess the springs are stretched or broken. The cardboard on the back won't stay in with the push tabs; when I sit in the seat, the back pops off on the driver-side. The cover is in excellent shape though. I don't have the money for a new custom seat so I guess I need to find a good used seat. Any ideas what year seats will work in this truck? Will seats from another make work?
I had the same problem, the seat was unbearably uncomfortable after more than 30 min. I had the Bench that spilt in the middle. I bought this seat and it was a direct bolt-in.
I've got Captain's chairs in my van, and both of the front ones slant outwards toward the door. You kind of feel like you're wanting to slide into the door. They must have been built this way, as both of them look the same.
Can't find any bends in the underframe. A small lady owned the van, so I don't think weight was a problem, just cheap seats by the conversion company.
It sounds to me as if a good auto upholstery shop could rebuild your seat springs or whatever, and probably even fix the backs to stay on without too much cash expenditure, drop by a shop, and if they are good I'm sure they can fix it for you without something as drastic as swapping out seats.
Charlez,
How much did you pay for a Lightning seat? It couldn't have been cheap. Do you have any extras lying around? If not, I think I'll check out an upholstery shop as Supercab suggested.
