Top Speed

A few months ago, I was in a passing lane on a 2 lane road. When I pass, I put the foot down, get in front, and then back off. I do not worry about how fast I get to.

I noticed that the truck tops out at 160km/hr.

I am not messing with the computer while it is under warrantee. After it is out of warrantee, I want to. I would not let the engine redline. What speed could the truck get to? 2013 5.0l

160kph is not enough for you? That's 100mph for what it's worth and it's damn fast in a 5-6klbs truck. You're starting to get on the verge of exceeding your tire's speed ratings too.

If I were going to have the possibility of going faster than my tires are rated, I would get tires of a higher rating.

Last thing I want is to cause an accident due to something so trivial as tire ratings.

Hey swimmer, what part of Canada are you in? Some of the provinces have some awfully serious "street racing" laws that could put you in jail at those speeds.

Anyway, I believe that the aftermarket tuners can also override the top speed governor. Buy one of those.

Ontario, which as the $10,000 fine for 50 over.

I would not ever try to maintain a high speed,, I just want it available to me when the need arises. Like short passing areas, or Track Day.

Loosing a tire because you over heated by going over the speed rating will NOT end pretty.

Also, if you're needing to exceed 160kph to pass then you're doing something wrong, perhaps being too impatient? Overtaking a slower motorist should need between 15-20 mph more than their current speed. So was the person you were passing doing 80mph/125kph?

So far, only once did I wish I had the higher speed. Broken line, driver doing 10 under on a clean clear road. Pull out to pass, almost in front... Transport Truck.
I got over safely, but still wish I have more speed.

Of course not but your willing to cause one by doing 160. Can only hope the only one injured or god forbid, dead is yourself and no one else.

I don't drive in Ontario, but they have some pretty harsh penalties in BC, and when I'm there, I don't pass if it requires going more than about 20 over the speed limit.

Out here in Alberta, we're a little more relaxed about speeding, but then again, most of our roads are straight and wide.

Guy asks a simple question and gets a bunch of fingers wagged in his face. If u don't know the answer to his question move along and spare us all from having to read a bunch of full blown lectures. Better get to your next book club meeting!

Agreed.

If I had wanted to just drive fast all the time, then either karma or the police would catch me.

I know too many people who own trucks for the status, and to avoid shovelling their short driveway in the city. They do not use it for what it was designed to do, haul.

A tuner can place the limit so high that you cannot get there. Effectively removes the limit for all practical purposes.

I full throttle pass on 2 lanes, too. No point in hanging out in the wrong lane. I've never come close to 100 mph though. You get an 'A' for effort, that's for sure!

I've ran into the same thing, I'll be adding a SCT tuner some time in the future.
