have a 01 f350 7.3 turbo dsl. will not start cold. engine turns over fine. plug into block heater over nite , will start! outside temp does not make difference. have replaced glow plugs, glowplug relay, wireing harness under valve covers. Help. Any Ideas were to go from here?
So it won't start with out being plugged in at all? When it does start what does the exhaust look like? Black, white or normal looking exhaust? How long does it take for the smoke to clear up? Hard starting could be a sign of worn injectors. A description of the exhaust may give us a clue.
starts with just a few seconds of effort, no black exh smoke, some, but not a lot of gray, idles rough for about a minute, clears up. starts the same way all day cold, not pluged in, can crank till battery dead, no start!
i would recommend takeing off both your valve cover and having someone crank your motor over and watch your injector oil spill spouts. Make sure there all oiling right while your cranking. Another good test to do would be to measure your high pressure oil pump pressure. Does your low pressure oil pump gauge on your dash show half or above of oil pressure?
Well buddy a ford powerstroke oil gauge on the dash is a pretty steady gauge. You can not see movement unless you lose all your oil pressure at once. What you need to try is what I mentioned before first. It could be a number of things. I personally think it's oil related. But if you don't want to hook up a gauge to the high pressure oil pump lines and actually monitor the high pressure oil pump pressure to your injectors it would be hard to diagnose and would probley need to be took to a reputable shop. Not everybody understands these powerstrokes. IIt's not just fuel pressure that fires the injectors. Answer me this: what's the mileage? How old is your injectors? Has your U.V.C.W.H. had the retaining clips or the 50 cent mod performed? When's the last time you changed or cleaned your I.p.r. valve?
Also unplug your I.c.p. sensor on your drivers side valve cover. It's a 3 wire connector. By doing this it'll make a extra 2000 psi of oil pressure. See if that help it.
