I have and 07 F250 and the #2 speed for the blower motor don't work (hasn't since I bought it) I read that the most common cause of this is the resistor under the hood on the firewall so I replaced that and still no 2nd speed??? Anyone know where I look next? Motor itself maybe? IDK Thanks.
Look at the switch and look at the connectors both at the switch and the resistor for signs of corrosion or overheating.
The connector at the resistor looked to have been over heated and somewhat rusted/corroded, the switch end looked fine. I cleaned the connector at the resistor but I didn't check to see of the wire for the corroded socket was getting power....I'll check that first, if not is the switch bad? Since the speed control is not in the motor I assuming that if it works on one it'll work in all speeds....Thanks
Look at the resistor and be sure the coils are not touching each other. They have to be seperated.
The resistor is new and looked as it should when I installed it.....I didn't scutinize the coils that much though, I assumed new would be as it should be. If I don't find the problem I'll remove it and check there. Thanks
Can a pigtail/connector for the blower motor resistor be bought for these SD's ? If so does anyone have an outlet and or a part#? Thanks.
Yes, they're available from Ford, if necessary.
Depending on what truck you're working on, AutoZone may well have it. Go there and plug in your truck's particulars and see if it matches. The basic '07 SD w/V8 uses a Duralast #421, for example, which sells for under $15.
Dorman sells a kit, part # 973-404, that covers a wide range of Fords that includes both the resistor and the replacement pigtail. That kit sells for $16 on Amazon, you might find it stocked at various B&M parts chains. Try Oreilly's first.
FYI, if the resistor is bad your blower motor will only work on high speed so I don't think your issue is at the resistor end. Most likely a problem with the switch or connector at the switch.
Thanks guys, I have already replaced the resistor and the connector was melted/ rusted at the point of contact so I followed your advice and ordered a connector from auto zone and I'll be replacing that when it arrives......and if that don't fix the problem it will be the switch after that.
I know this is a little bit of a time span but I did finally get a warm enough day to replace the connector under the hood at the resister and it DID correct my blower motor speed problem the blower motor now has all four speeds, which is kind of interesting because I tried checking the wires before the plug and I couldn't get power at the plug for the wire that was burnt....decided to change the plug anyway because I already had it and low and behold it fixed the problem.
