9" pumpkin ?
Hi all! I tried searching here and elsewhere and couldn’t find an answer I *think* is obvious. I’m looking at a used (extra) 9” gear-set/pumpkin for my ’74 F100 240 I6 with 3-speed manual (3.70 gear.) It’s gotta have 28-spline axles, right? They wouldn’t put a 31-spline axle behind a I6 ?? Thanks!

Yeah they do. Pull an axle and count the splines, not that hard. The only other way is if you still have the ID tag that was under one of the nuts that holds the rear end in place. The code on it can be crossed over to tell you which axles are in the truck.
