My automatic tranny is limping along.
My mechanic suggested getting one from junk yard.
$150 we find it and pull it. What tranny can i use?
2000 F250 7.3 with 250K miles.

1999 to 2003 4R100 from a 7.3 truck in the same configuration as yours (2wd or 4x4)

 

If you plan on keeping your truck, I would have the original rebuilt. A yard one can go bad 6 months down the road. Even if you get a yard trans, I would still get a billet TC.

 

yeah, it's a gamble pulling one from the yard. You could get lucky and find a low mileage truck but even then it's still a gamble.

For $150 though, that's worth the core charge all day long. You can send it for rebuild while you limp the current one in your truck along while you wait.

Your inspection should include looking for leaks at the TC area etc. Inspection of fluid can also be a clue. Other than that roll the dice.. Good luck
