My point was - if I were a theif looking to steal 5 gallons of fuel and two trucks are parked side by side, I will probably choose the one that is easy (no lock) rather than make myself more obvious by making noise to punch or pry open the locked door...
Even though I live in an area where most people leave their keys in their trucks, I am going to add a lock to this door - because I don't just stay put in my honest little community...
Yes - and I have found them, but they're a hundred bucks and I would rather do something for $20or less.. I have already found the product, just need to buy and install it..
It is also not just the thief.....remember the tree hugger types that used to spike trees to do harm to the guys working and runnng the saw...there may be some of those that dont like big diesel trucks...and the deadbeat that will do harm, just because he doesnt have as nice of rig as you, even tho he doesnt want to work and earn it. There are all kinds of malicious a-holes out there!

And I am looking for a lock that uses the barrel type key, rather than the flat blade type....just a little harder to jimmie it up! The one that I installed is one that I had in my stash of stuff.
Barrel type locks are common on rolling tool boxes so may be available at any scrap yard, possibly Home Depot or lowes too since they use them on those tool boxes.
If you are anywhere coastal west marine is a store full of saltwater proof hardware. I'm sure the website would do also. I think this is what I'd do, get whatever they use for saltwater boats.
I thought about the barrel locks too... I had already sourced a regular flat key lock, but had not ordered it yet.. I went out in my shop and realized I had a number of these locks!
They are in the Gladiator Cabinets in my shop.. A couple minutes later, I have the lock on my bench...
I bought a bunch of those locks a few years ago to change out the old flat key style locks on the storage doors on my RV. Any RV supply place should have them as well.

This ought to work out fine on my fuel door...
THAT looks exactly like what I am looking for...was in Henderson/Vegas the other day and went to both Lowes and Home Depot and neither had anything with the barrel key.

That is what I purchased some for.........Still have a couple extras..........
I actually bought them because a couple of my exterior locks were very difficult to operate and I was afraid I would snap the flat key at some point, and still not have that door open. The barrel locks offered more leverage and less likelihood of key breakage when extra force was need to operate the lock. Perhaps this is something to consider for the locking fuel doors on cold climates where ice could cause issues.
I just got great news from the insurance company that they gave the okay on my DEF claim for vandalism. Minus the deductible. No complaints here.
Glad to hear that they are stepping up for at least part of the bill..
With my $500 deductible - I don't think I'd be as happy as you apparently are..
Some @$$Clown just cost me x numbers of days without my truck and $500!!!

I was stuck for $1600 and -$500 deductible is better than getting caught with the total bill.
