I bought a 1995 7.3 xlt 4x4 for 4k with a motor swap with the same year it has ***** as soon as you tap the pedal so Im assuming it has a pretty aggressive tune on it but I dont know for sure. So when it was running the power would vary it would be slow at time then accelerate with the lightest touch of the pedal and while I would drive if I kept my throttle in one position it would start accelerating and then all of a sudden it would start slowing down and I had a problem with the truck rapidly overheating. Now I just found out the map sensor was unplugged this whole time!! What happens if a map sensor goes bad, what are the symptoms? Would it being unplugged be causing the turbo to speed up and slow down with the wastegate? A mechanic said that, the turbo would spin too slow at times and that was causing the truck to not get enough air and with all the fuel from the tune egt's would quickly rise. Does this sound possible? Thank you
Symptoms of a map being unplugged is a check engine light. The PCM will 'guess' what the boost is and apply what it thinks is the right fueling. Did you connect it to see what it does?
Turbo is off e99 its rigged on there with a wastegate
Just found that out^^^ and the truck is not running now because the fuel pump crapped out. And I dont know egt's theres no gauges but the water temp would rise to H in about a minute driving with medium throttle.
The truck overheated badly once and shut off while driving, but ran fine after that. I think thats what killed the fuel pump because after that the fuel pump was tapping and finally went out.
Got the truck running, definitely more turbo sound now. The only problem is it runs fine sometimes then it will start running rough or missing at idle. Changed icp, cps, fuel pump, fuel filter and in tank pickup, new oil, uvch are fine injectors are all squirting oil. Dont know what the problem could be? Could it possiblt be the idm?
