Would the PCV valve be in the same spot on a '98 2.5L Ranger?

Isn't interesting that Ford engineers can find so many different places to hide the same part from one year to the next? On my '91 the PCV valve is on top of the valve cover behind the throttle body.

So here it is. PCV valve location in a '96 2.3L engine. Right under the #2 spark plug on the drivers side. It's the grey plastic thing in the middle of the picture. It was hard to get to it ans people with big hands will have to remove the #2 spark plug cap (which I couldn't pull out with my bare hands). I only removed the electric connector with the red wire which goes to the component that sits right above the PCV valve.

Although the picture is no longer available, this description finally led to a successful change of my PCV valve on my '96 2.3L Ranger. 5 Minute Job!!! The after market valve i bought had two lines on it, but provided a plug for the small line. Only thing that seemed odd was the fact the the original valve and the replacement valve alike did not seem to fit very snuggly. Very loose.

Andy,
That pic is for the 3.0 and 4.0 engine not the 2.3L engine. Where is the oil seperator it refers to?

I need a smaller hand for that. It comes out and curves down just between the intake manifold and the firewall. Right after it curves down is where the PCV valve on mine is located. The hose is on top of the valve and the other side of the valve plugs into another hose/tube that then goes down under the engine.

If you pull up on this hose the PCV valve will come out and be on the end of the hose. You can then put a new one on and plug it back in to the bottom hose/tube.

The Haynes manual for 93-97 ranger shows this on page 1-25. It is in illustartion 20.1a. The only confusing thing about this picture is the orientation of the engine. The first time I looked at it I couldn't make it out. Looking at it again there is an arrow locating the location of the front of the engine. Then it became clear.

Hope this helps.

Take your new pcv valve and pry the two port palstic adapter off then you will have the right valve. They have been selling this valve for years this way. Letting hot water run over the palstic part where it goes on the valve makes it easier to get off.

The one I picked up for my 91 4 cyl had a metal part and a plastic part with two nipples sticking out a right angles. There was also a plug for one of the nipples. I took it back and showed them a drawing from the 91 factory service manual that had a nipple on one end of a straight through design. The counterman took the valve and pulled the plastic end off and, lo and behold, there was a straight through design with a nipple on one end. It fitted perfectly. Ford engineers must have a lot of fun finding different ways of hiding the PCV valve. After all, if it was always in the same place, what would we have to talk about?

Does anyone know if this info would be the same for the location of the PCV valve on a 96 4.0L? I've looked under the hood, under the truck and felt around behind the engine by the firewall but I just can't find it.

I think you just twist off the plastic two tubed thing and discard it. It is a bear to find, I never woulda got at it on my '87 had I not taken the engine out while getting the frame painted.

Hello, I'm new and I'd like to apologize for digging up such an old thread. I have an 88 Ranger 2.3 and I can not for the life of me find the PCV valve, I would appreciate any help. Thanks and everyone have a nice day.

I looked today where the Autozone repair guide said it was (under the intake, between intake and block) and there was nothing there. The only vacuum hose that goes under the intake (that I can see) plugs into a port and goes into the vacuum canister. Anybody know where I can find this?
