I have a 1979 Ford F 150. I had hoped to restore the vehicle too good safe operating condition for my son. Although I'm not sure if it is truly worth fixing or not depending on the cost. It has some problems with the engine does not run probably not sure if it needs rebuilding or a new engine, crate engine installed, also I noticed the underneath side of the bed of the pickup is rusted out and part of the cab behind the seat is rusted, have not noticed any rest of the frame. Just looking for any helpful advice/opinions on how to go about restoring it and whether or not it would be worth it. It is not running now so even to have a mechanic look at it would require a costly tow from my rural area.
Any ideas where to start would be greatly appreciated.
Post up some pics asap, to give us an idea of what ya got. Everything on these trucks can be fixed or replaced. On top of that, there are a lot of junk yard up-grades. Definitely a great starter/learner truck for anyone willing to learn. This website is chalk full of very smart fellas to assist you with any problem.
Welcome aboard and yes these trucks are a great platform to start with. I started driving in a 78 F100 short box rwd and still have it, and I'm 39 y/o. Now that's love I tell ya.!
And before anyone digs on me.. I was 15 when I got it...
Thanks guys for the welcome and such a fast response. I'll get some pics posted as soon I see the sun shining again, it's been overcast, cold and freezing rain around my area the past few days.
Thanks again
As said pictures would be great. Also try to provide some written information. The better the information provided, the better the responses will be. Figure on performing an accurate compression test on the engine. This will tell you the overall general health of the engine.
If that's the truck in your gallery...nice. Where in VA? There might be others in the area that could help. You can also join the VA Chapter and post there.
