Wonder if anyone can help me diagnose an issue. I replaced the batteries on my 2002 Superduty Diesel. Shouldn't have been a big deal, but when I connected the battery the doors locked and the truck started making a continous, rapid loud clicking sound - tat..tat..tat..tat. I opened the door with my spare key, turned the ignition to on and it stopped.
Everything works as far as I can tell, except door locks, FOBs, ABS light stays on, and power mirrors don't work. Also, I get the dreaded 5 beeps when I turn the truck off, although both light indicators for the air bags illuminate, then go our after engine started.
I pulled fuse #19 to reset the VSM as suggested in another thread and that starts the clicking tat..tat..tat again when reinserted. The clicking seems to be coming from behind the dashboard somewhere over the pedals. The truck runs fine but the door locks don't work and the ABS light stays on. The 5 beeps happen when I turn the engine off, but it could be intermittent while running but it's not loud enough to hear over the engine.
Is this a bad VSM or something else? Sounds like a stuck relay of some sort?
Update - the ABS light goes off now. After test driving it's not on and the ABS is active. Probably because the truck sat for 4 months while I was gone. That's why the batteries died; I decided just to replace them since they were the ORIGINAL batteries.
Also the door ajar light now stays on. I could have sworn it was working, so maybe not related to this VMS/door lock/FOB issue. And also note now that the radio doesn't turn off after opening door after turning engine off and the door doesn't ding-ding when key on accessory position and door is open.
I'm leaving fuse #19 out till I resolve this. Otherwise truck is great.
