if you are a distance from your truck and you use the remote start how do you know for sure the truck started,i think someone should make a remote with a little lite on it to tell when the truck has started ,i have done the remote start and when i get to the truck it is not running just because the horn blows 2 times does not mean it has started..
My 2012 didn't come factory with remote start so I purchased and installed a kit from Ford. My key fob is separate and has a light around the start button that blinks once the truck starts and makes a beeping noise three times. The fob beeps three times again once the truck turns off and the light stops blinking as well. I believe you can buy this kind of fob by itself from Ford.
My remote chirps one tone when it starts and chirps a different tone if it doesn't. If it is running and I shut it off via the remote then it chirps a tone that sounds opposite of the start up sound.
Like the guys above said, many starters have a 2-way communication to verify that your vehicles has started. It used to be that factory starters were all 1-way, which can leave you witht he problem you describe.
This is one reason I've bought several higher-end aftermarket starters in the past, because I really value that 2-way feature.
It seems Ford is catching on and now offers a 1-way and a 2-way option on starters. I haven't looked into the features of the factory starters, but I will for sure when I buy my next truck.
I agree that havingg an indication of the truck having actually started when you cannot see the truck is great. I was looking at the extended remots when I was building a truck buut did not want a key that had remote start built into it and also have a seperate fob to carry around for the remote start.
I wonder if you could upgrade keys that will allow you to see the truck has started without upgrading the whole system?
