NEED ADVICE....AGAIN
So, ive found a 2006 6.0 psd lariat dually. Very nice. The owner said the truck quit on him shortly after he bought it. 130k I believe. Said there was snotty grey stuff in coolant (we all kno what that is)...so he tore it down, took out the block and figured out it was to much for him and said screw it. He wants to sell it
I want to buy it. I know the mechanic part and know what to do to get her running. Dont care what the motor looks like. My question is, how much should I offer for a truck that has the motor laying to the side? Scrap price? What do yall think?

As little as possible.... Because you already know that you will be putting some $$ into getting in back together. And obviously the person you are buying it from is stuck in a rock and hard place.
It is probably worth more to you than scrap and the other person might be willing to let it go if you offer slightly more than that. What's poor book value on trade in?

I bought my 6.4 2008 truck for 2500, with some engine problems.
You could find a 6.0 engine for sale and swap it in, or put a cummins in it.
With the coolant pooched, there could be lots wrong with that truck.
Before buying it, check around for 6.0 engines, or even a complete 6.0 truck thats maybe been rolled or in a major accident, but still runs good.
Of course you could figure out what was wrong with the original engine, but what if you can't?
Another option would be maybe an engine rebuilder would take it as a core, and give you a rebuilt motor. Sure they are pricey, right around 10k, but that gives you a warranty for a few years.
