Ive decided to go with the 351 and a aod because i dont plan on towing anything but i do plan on racing it (only at the track of course) but on the off chance i do tow somethin i should be alright that 351 dynoyed at 489 lb ft and 547 hp far more tourque than that 390 ever put out

hp ues but the tourque peaks between 3100-3700 but at 2000 makes 350 lb ft and goes up from there so even though i dont plan on towing anything ( dont even have a hitch) if i have to ill be fine
Shoooot, I towed 6,000lbs pretty easily with my cleveland and it ain't that strong. Maybe 350hp. And that was with AOD 3.25 gears and 31" tires. I wouldn't be afraid to hookup 8,000lbs, and maybe even 10,000 If I had to. Especially now that I have lower gears.
What size tires and what gears are you running? Gearing is very important with the AOD. I'm going to recommend at LEAST a 3.70 ratio, depending on tire size. I'm running 4.11s with 31s and it's pretty good like that.
If you really wanted to drop some money on a 'big' 351W, Ford Racing Parts has a siamese cylinder bore, splayed 4-bolt main block (p/n M-6010-W351) that can be bored/stroked to 454 cubic inches. That would easily produce 500-700 hp.
Big-block power with a small-block size and weight reduction.

WoooW. That is some big numbers for only 351 CI. I'm not saying I'm doubting you but 2X Bobby. I'd like to hear what's in it also. Pics too please! Take care to build a AOD to support that much torque. Including it's input shaft.
1971/74 Pantera's came with the 351C 4V with 4 bolt mains. Actor Jack Webb bought a 1972 from Lynch L/M in Santa Monica. He was the most awful PITA customer imaginable.
He must have gone over the entire car with a magnifying glass, because he nick-picked all sorts of things including an upholstery stitch that was slightly out of place.
To make matters worse, he stood next to mechanics watching them like a hawk while they worked on it.
....in the realm of Panteras and 351 Clevelands, here's an interesting article of a Swedish guy who owns an '84 GT5 351C Pantera that he converted to (Ford) EEC-IV fuel injection.
I have a Mustang buddy who lives in Sweden and met the guy who owns this Pantera.
