Duane, it was mentioned on the Bonus Built Facebook page yesterday and started a heated discussion. I think the original poster had a stake in it because when a couple of us mentioned the seller said it needed "a little body work" we scoffed at the his idea of "a little". It is a nice truck and the price, if the bidding doesn't go nuts, is pretty reasonable but it need more than "a little" body work. It even has the passenger side seat. If it was closer I'd bid on it. It's in the same city a Mtflat.
Clearly there is a pile of work to put this one back on the road - regardless of ownership. Other than a select few who choose to live in God's country, most buyers will face some stiff transport costs to move this beauty into their area codes.
Separately, I've never seen anything but heated discussions on FB. Bar fights without the physical contact and social graces one might expect in the finer drinking establishments.
At this point with just 4 hours until the end of bidding and no bids. Like real estate, when these trucks are in the middle of nowhere no one seems to bid on them. Too bad, that is a prime candidate for a restoration.
Facebook does have it's distractors but the Bonus Built page is pretty decent, Cody keeps a tight rein on it. He yanked the discussion about this panel truck when it started getting "interesting". I also have a page set up for '37-38 Buick and I've never had a problem with poster there. Now on my personal page I have a few "friends" that can be a PIA but I keep them as friends just to see what goofy thing they post next.
I was in the city where this panel truck is, Kalispell, Montana, about ten years ago. Not much there, like my wife's pastor said, when he was posted there the biggest event was a traffic jam at the only stop light in town. It's about a 24 hour one way drive out there for you or me, I don't think my wife would like it if I bid on it.
I have had 3 inoperable trucks delivered out here to Washington State. Two from Minot ND, a one ton and a two ton. Both were 900.00 and you pay the guy cash on delivery. The other was a landcruiser pickup from Show-Low AZ. That was also 900.00. They get listed by the seller on something called 'Central Dispatch'. An independant trucker passes through and has a space, so he picks it up. When you post on 'CD' you put the price you want to pay for the move. If it's high enough it will get picked up quickly, but my 2 ton took six weeks before a couple of Uzbekistani truckers brought it out. They were professional and very helpful. It had been 10 below in Minot when loading this hulk so they earned their money. I figured it would have been 600.00 for the fuel alone to go pick it up in North Dakota with my 20 year old f350 diesel. I have a one ton purchased in Minnesota right now listed in Central Dispatch for pickup. I have a lot of faith in this system so far.
$1350! A pretty good deal. You have to wonder, or at least I do, what did the seller pay for it at the estate sale. I would think maybe 3/4 of what his starting bid of $1350, about $1000? I would think less than that, I'd bet he got it for around $600-750.
Ilya I agree but there are "parts trucks" and then there are trucks that are good.restoration candidates. This one I feel is the latter. I'd hate to see this one chopped up. Good restoration projects are getting harder to find. I see more parts being available than good.restorer.
Holy crap. I'm pretty darn new to the classics scene, but $1,350 sounds like a STEAL for a panel. Am I off-base with this? I thought panels typically brought in a premium...

True - but location, location, location. Few could see it and the prospect of paying $800 to $1200 in transport makes for few bidders.
Timing matters also. This one just didn't hit a good window.
