99150- All the replies and suggestions have been very helpful. I remember when I researched putting a hitch in my 2004 F250 I was told is should be set up for the king pin to be positioned 2" in front of the rear axle. I had a trailer hitch installer put the hitch in my 2014 and he installed in 2" in front of the axle also. Both trucks had/have long bed. There isn't any adjustment as to where the hitch goes. The hitch rails are fixed and although the hitch is a slider so I could move it back if I wanted to but don't know what that would accomplish.

Randy, the slider is for hard turns with a short bed pickup. With a long bed there will be no reason to ever slide the hitch back. And 2" in front of the rear axle is the correct position for a 5th wheel hitch unless one is trying to mess with the axle weights to pass a DOT inspection.

Javi1- I didn't need a slider since my '04 was also a long bed but I got a killer deal on it so I snatched it up. It's a 16K Reese and it does the job. Directions on the hitch read something like 'slide back for maneuvering, forward for towing'. I've never tried sliding it back when I get into a campground but someday I'll give it a shot.

The trick for sliders it to use the trailer brakes then pull forward or back to move the slider.

Unless it is an automatic one.
