Another Double Din thread!!!

Aboot to grind out my dash panel to install a Visteon Nav unit my son gave me. In many moons of research and using the search function, found many references to the American International FMK552 mounting kit.

It has been stated that with this kit, the replacement radio can be removed without having to remove the dash bezel. DOESN'T HAPPEN!!

This kit (and another identical kit from Scorpion) do not allow radio removal easily. Instructions of both are identical, and probably both kits are sourced and packaged from same mfg.

Has anyone actually bought this kit in the past and found that the radio could be removed from the bezel easily?? Maybe the kit has been changed, and since American International isn't around any longer, wonder if any other mfg's kit is any different!!!

Just some food for thought, and maybe to help anyone in the future with their choice of kits.

I had the kit in with the last radio I installed but when I put my new unit (4000NEX) I haven't but a dash kit in there because for now, it's held well just with friction.

Most dash kits 'clip' onto the factory bezel which is what causes it to stay in the first place. I have yet to find a kit yet that I like. I REALLY dislike the Metra 95-5817 which I have several of from Crutchfield when they send me the decks.

I think the next one I'll get is the Metra 95-5818. Somewhere recently there were several posts of us discussing mounting kits...

I have mine installed without the kit. Minimal trimming on the dash bezel allows the radio to be held in with just friction.

I would go with the metra 95-5818. Mines on the way. Not sure how it mounts but the finished product looks better than the 95-5817 IMHO.
