Should I buy it.

I have been wanting a 1976 or 77 HB with Pwr front disc and AC. Then I found a really nice farm truck, so I just purchased my first Highboy, it's a 1974 with manual trans & steering, power drum brakes and no AC.

Then... going down the road a week later, I see a F250 parked on the side of someones house, since I got the HB bug I had to ask if it was for sale. It is, for $1800, it's a 1976 w/ a 360, AC, Power front disc and a C6 trans with 97000 miles.

I had the owner start it up which took a little doing being that the temps were 15 degrees, but it started up & died a few times, but it did idled eventually. I put in in drive and reverse and it felt fine except the temp rose to HOT. The owner had just changed heater core hoses & rad hoses and hadn't put back coolant or the fan.

My first thought is that it shouldn't of got that HOT that fast in 15 degree windy weather, or should it?

The bad is that it has an 1982 bed on it and the cab, roof, fender and radiator support is rusted out.

At the end of our conversation he said he would take $1000.

Is it worth it just for the drive train, could I convert my 74 to AC with the parts and use the front disc rear?

Considering that the bed is wrong, the cab, roof, radiator support and probably the cab mounts are rusted out, it hasn't be driven, what are you really buying?

The A/C and the disc brake front driving axle. But does the A/C work? What is the condition of the axle?

IMO...offer 400 bucks in cash. If the seller says no...then go from there...but don't offer too much more.

And btw: 1973/79 F100/350 & 1978/79 Bronco: There are THREE different types of A/C:

1) Factory installed integral A/C is combined with the heater. The A/C controls are located in the same panel as the heater controls.

2) Dealer installed Deluxe A/C is combined with the heater. The two A/C switches are located in the HUGE dash bezel that sweeps across the entire right side of the dash, covering up the glove box.

There is a "hang-on" glove box bolted to the bottom of the dash.

3) Dealer installed Economy A/C is not combined with the heater. The two A/C switches are located in a panel that also contains two A/C registers.

This panel fits into the dash to the left of the glove box.
