Question Really REALLY strange backup sensor issue

No flames-I know there are a zillion threads about sensors but none covered this crap. The switch was lit and always off when I bought this one. I replaced the 4 sensors-no luck all though I could hear all 4 ticking. Next I replaced the speaker--ALMOST wa-lah. The 2 inner sensors work but the 2 outside sensors do not--or let me say they do not activate the system. I can hear ticks but no response. I know someone will say check connectors-which I will but honestly what are the odds the 2 outside sensors don't work and the 2 middle ones do. Is there a wiring pattern where they are linked in this fashion.

I swear I think this one was hit by lightning. The rear fan switch would not control speed--just stayed on. Replaced switch, replaced resistor-still one speed only and cannot turn off--so I unplugged the fan motor. I would not think the motor could be an issue=could it?

The overhead console did not work. Had to send it off to be repaired--to this point of 2 days it still works.

If anyone has any thoughts on the fan or backup system--Pee leeees
throw them out there. There is a ghost in the machine

The rear seat rear fan switch (on mine) only works if the front overhead rear fan switch is set to "rear"... which think is the first position.

On the backup sensors, are they snapped in all the way... not pushed back into the housing part way? The reason I ask is that if there's any actual system fault. the system is supposed to deactivate; so you should never have just two working.

If the sensors aren't snapped in, they might not be "aimed" properly?

Yeah I thought one item would shut it down as well but this one has been anything but normal. I don't have a control in front for rear air. This is an 05 aith automatic climate control. My 01 did have what you are describing.

I put the switch on and went back and put my hand in front of the sensors. if I stood to theside and placed my hand over either outside sensor--nothing, Moved over to inside sensors-worked just fine. I looked at the wiring diagram--this system should not be able to do what its doing. Ill pull the outside 2 tomorrow when the snow melts off of it in the garage.

Only thing I can figure is a partial connection where the system is grounded enough to not kick it off but not letting enough power through to completely activate the sensor. Geez I NEVER get anything routine!

4 X 4--everything inside is stock

I have pretty much the same issue with my back up sensors. An interesting thing happened with mine when i had the truck reprogrammed, all of the sudden the system started working once again. Then one day, it started freaking out while in reverse, and then nothing, back to the original issue of the two centers working and the two outer ones on the fritz.

While I would love to have the system working, I have pretty much given up on the dang thing!

Good luck with yours...

Even with climate control there is a switch on the headliner for the rear heater/AC in addition to the rear switch.

It would only take about 5 minutes to swap the backup sensors around and see if the "problem" goes with the sensors or stays with the wiring.

If you switch one inner with the other side outer, you should have one side working and one side not working if the two sensors are bad. It's a wiring or module problem it would stay the same.

Backup sensor issue 05 X

I have watched and decided to participate the first time with my issue with the backup system . I removed my rear bumper , replaced the entire wiring harness , replaced the censors ( all new) , replaced the control box in the right rear side panel and I have only two sensors working. The far left and the right center work. I have switched sensors and still it is the same two that work. they all can be heard clicking. I have used my finger and scratched across the right sensor and it will beep a couple of times and then quit. The left center will not activate any. There is continuity from the center pin of each connector to the control box. Both control boxes respond the same way with the same 2 sensors working. I have downloaded a wiring diagram and It did not help.
Could this have not worked originally from the factory and where or who do I contact to help me troubleshoot this situation. thanks

I am very hardheaded about something like this not working!

Well I can tell you where NOT to go. I'm hardheaded as well--but after all it is supposed to work so it needs to work. I went to JustAnswer and explained this to a Ford "Master" Technician. I explained as well that I'm 75 miles one way from a dealer. Do you know what he told me? He said I need to quit swapping parts and take it to a shop and if they have a half decent OBD meter thay should be able to pick up the DTC (duhhhh). I gave him an unsatisfactory rating so they routed me to ask him again. I explained again and pointed out that my original question asked if the switch operates, all the sensors test good-is there anything besides the PAM it could be. He sent me a pdf file of 2 pages from the service manual--which I already have. A simple "I can't really tell you" and a refund would have been fine...Anyway don't take that route.

It is just hard to believe when you replace everything it should work. I am tempted to take it to Ford and see if they can really fix it. It would be worht my sanity. thanks very much for the reply. Ed
