is a crown vic front suspension better or easier to install than a mustang 2 style suspension? is handling better in one over the other? what do you think of aftermarket mustang 2 style suspension like Heidts, etc.? which is best? thanks
Most MII are a bit more custom then the crown Vic's. Advantage of CV it's a whole front section crossmember rack and pinion steering and all pretty much pre setup. MII's take more knowledge and fabrication skills. Also you need to figure out your steering and all mounting/ pivot points. A MII can be set up many ways to suite your custom ride or anything it go's in as a CV your stuck with a more limited suspension setup. There is other I frame type IFS setups then the CV
The CV gives 5" minimum lowered stance with stock coils I believe. So you will definitely get the drop you want or more. Depends how much do you want to spend? Dust are you using the truck for? Hauling any loads in the bed ever? So many variable come into play if your even considering a MII they are everything from mild to wild depending what your going for. A CV is a fan favorite and come out cheaper every time if you know how to find a deal. Quick easy and you have a good riding IFS
If a 3in drop is all you are looking for I would go with a set of dropped beams.
MII or CV requires disassembly of the entire front end, cutting, welding, and fabricating.
You are looking at a weekend project or a months long project for the same goal of a 3in drop, not to mention the huge price difference.
I know on my 64 and 65 and both 65 Mustangs, every time I start one project it turns into 5-6 projects. Thats the nature of vehicles that have been on the road for 50 years.
i want better handling than beams. i want it to drive like a new camaro except i don't want irs. probably gonna use an LS engine. has anybody put new camaro ifs in these trucks? harder job than cv or m2? is handling equal on cv and m2? what years cv works best on 65? thanks
i was afraid of that reaction..lol. i've driven ford trucks(65,83,85,93) all my life. i've got a fresh carbed 351w but it's a gas hog. i want a good mileage injected cruiser. if you have a wrecked car why not use it?
i've driven ford trucks and chevy cars starting with a 68Z28. i'm an old codger just playin with what i've got. you'll have to admit the LS engines are hard to beat. 430hp and 20+mpg.
Ehhh you won't see me in no Chevy no matter what the mpg is. If your trying to get good gas milage forget about it with these ole bricks. A diesel is what I'd go with over some LS how about a nice hemi instead. Anything but Chevy is what I say. sorry I'm just that much anti bow tie.
I can't recall anyone trying to put a camaro front end in one of our trucks. Crown Vic front ends are cheap and readily available. That being said with enough fabrication just about anything thing can be made fit. Your truck and your parts, I say go for it. Just make sure to take a lot of pics and share along the way
