54 to 56 dash conversion

Hey yall, ive always liked 56 dash/gauge clusters better than 53-55. My question is has anyone done a conversion before? Ive read that the dash is semi-structural so it can not simply be swapped...any truth to this? Im sure with time, money, and know how anything can be done but im looking for a more or less straight forward swap. Anyone with info, links, pics, etc the help would be great.
thanks yall
Jon

As you said with time money etc anything can be done. I would think the first thing to be adressed iare the ends. The 56 has ends that allow for the "wrap around" windshield.

dash

Its all how bad you want to change it, it can be done but its not a bolt in dash, I put a 51 Victoria dash in my 54 looks great, but my dash was cut to pieces so I had to do something with it, I welded a 1 1/2" tube from side to side for strength then welded in the dash, tapered to the original door opening, looks like it came in the truck, it wasn't a bad job, just a little cutting and welding. good luck George.

Im thinking the easiest way to make this happen would be by aquiring a 56 dash and cutting out the cluster section, then removing the 54 section and welding in the 56.
My worry is ive noticed that 56s seem to have more of a roll/bend on the transition from top to bottom. But then again that could be fixed with a little metal or fiberglass work. Just trying to think/research in advance. Thanks guys

I think the easiest way to get a 56 dash is to buy a 56 truck! LOL
