Hopefully you can lend some help here: Finally got my 84 F-250 and the first thing I want to do is get tires and rims for it. Looking at American Racing AR62's and would like a 215/85/16 but I pretty partial to an OWL tire. Can't seem to find anything in that size though, it looks like I'd have to jump to a different size. I've always liked the skinny, tall tire look but I don't think I'm willing to go with a black wall. Any advice?
215/85/16 are not a very tall tire. That's pretty much stock sized tire, or a little smaller.
85 is a pretty tall tire if I remember correctly. I guess I meant tall for stock. I was under the impression most stock truck tire sizes are xxx/65/xx or at the most xxx/75/xx so I kinda figured that the 215/85/16 was pretty tall for a stock tire size.
Stock for an F250 is 235/85r16, 215's are found on 2wd duallies.
Tire height is not determined by the aspect ratio alone, in metric tire sizing the first number is width in millimeters, the second number is the sidewall height in percentage of the width, followed by the rim size in inches.
A 235/85r16 is essentially the same height as a 265/75r16, both being more or less a 31", with the 235 being roughly 8" wide and the 265 being roughly a 10.50.
