I have a 84 F-150 with a 4 speed with bad engine and want to swap in a 96 Mustang Cobra engine. Do the engines share same bell housing bolt pattern?
Thanks todd3654@gmail.com
(first post so I don't know how to do this)
Some oddball 4.6 motors did have the old pattern didn't they? I thought I read that somewhere.
The very first ones did. 91/92, casting F1AE is the exact same as the windsor pattern. Look in full size 91/92 Ford and 91 Lincoln cars. Anything F3 and above is different. The F2VE is the question mark, I've seen it listed as having the AOD (Windsor) pattern and the AODE (Mod) pattern. If it's got hollow dowel pins it's the Mod pattern. The Mod pattern is close, but I don't know if it's adaptable or not. The 96 Cobra is definitely the Mod pattern.
Also, the first two digits of the casting number tell you the first year it was cast. C is the 60's, D the 70's, E the 80's, F the 90's, etc. The second digit is the year, so F1 is 91. E7 would be 87 and so on.
