Ok fellas. I got my truck home yesterday, got a really good deal on it. Has a few things that needs fixed but nothing I didnt expect plus gives me something to do on my down time. The one issue I have is when i try and it start it it doesnt click or nothing. I replaced the battery because I couldnt even get it to start with jumping it. Well after I replaced the battery, still nothing. So I used a screwdriver and tried jumping the starting sylenoid and it started no problem doing that. So I replaced that but still nothing when I try and start it. Then I have my dad try and start while I hit the started with a hammer to see if that works and still nothing. So my question is would it be a bad starter? Tomorrow im going to check my grounds with my starter because ive found some missing bolts from were the previous owner didnt put in for some reason thinking that mabye its loose or something because so far ive had to put bolts in my tranny mount to my tranny becaue those two were missing and found a bolt missing for my alternator. Any ideas on what to check would be great.
I would replace the ignition switch....I had that happen a few times....It works when you turn the key on and then use a screw driver on the relay? It will run correct?
Replacing is easy and if it don't work you can always return it. There is a little slot on the bottom of the steering column under the ignition switch...Put your key in the ignition, turn the key on and press a small Allen wrench in the hole and pull the ignition switch out. If you don't have a Allen wrench any small rod the size of a tooth pick will work...Metal cloths hanger that you can bend straight ect...
its a 1990. I found the problem, it ended up being a bad neutral switch behind my clutch. Had an older guy run it passed me so I bypassed to see if it would work and it did so that was my problem. but thanks for the help! I was changing out my back drum brakes today and when I pulled the drums off there was grease packed everywhere. my axle seals went out so I had replace them. All I got left to get done is change my oil pan gasket tomorrow and I can take her out for a cruise!
