Just bought a 1999 ford explorer limited , with a 4.0 sohc vin code E , for $400 pretty sure it has a blown headgasket
How do u remove heads on this vehicle , do u need speacial cam tools like I read
If you have anything else physically in your possession other than those tools, there is no point in trying to disassemble that engine because it will never run. This engine uses no timing marks, nor are any of the chain sprockets keyed. They are fastened together entirely with bolt torque.
It may end up less expensive for you just to purchase a used, running complete engine to install in its place.

To get the SOHC heads off, don't you have to remove the engine anyway?
