Mining for Linings
too narrow' axle on another trailer from a '39 tonner. I tried the other day to pull a drum off it to see it it had any good brake linings for the panel, but I beat and pulled, pulled and beat and beat too much and finally I figured it got out of round and it didn't rotate any more. Well, today I wasn't about to let it win so I cut off the messed up drum with an angle grinder, and low and behold, the 39 axle had a nice set of riveted linings about 50 percent
. (at 61 years old so I'm good for life) Now I can button up the '47 rear axle with useable brakes and rebuilt wheel cylinders and stick it under the panel when it gets here. Today the '58 f600 fire truck drove away with it's new owners and the '37 1 1/2 ton looks to be sold. It is going to Long Island. It was a good day. I hope it's a sign for a good year. Maybe I can tell my wife I bought a panel truck in Minnesota now. Funny thing she wouldn't give a rats a** either way. Also heres a picture of the hood I bought for the panel yesterday vwhen I was off island picking up my wife's grandkids. Brownie points can really help when you are up to something.
On another subject, are you ever going to go check out that auxiliary transmission? I'm probably a few years from doing anything with my aux box and need to live vicariously through others on this forum... You know you want to twin stick the new panel truck!
I've wanted an aux box for a while, just haven't got my hands on one yet... I've got a shifter and linkage for one though. I'll be taking transmission and drivetrain in a semester or two in college, it'd be a neat project to re-build one.
