Finally got a 59 I've been chasing for years

I have been after this truck for the last 16-18 years. It was a friends dads. He bought it around 1990. He put in a 460/c6 from a 77 Lincoln.

<a href="http://s30.photobucket.com/user/Tude_01/media/imagejpg8.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c314/Tude_01/imagejpg8.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo imagejpg8.jpg"/></a>

<a href="http://s30.photobucket.com/user/Tude_01/media/imagejpg7.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c314/Tude_01/imagejpg7.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo imagejpg7.jpg"/></a>

I replaced the plug wires and then the float stuck in the carb. Decided if I'm going to tear the carb off I may as well toss on an edelbrock intake I had from one of my other trucks.

<a href="http://s30.photobucket.com/user/Tude_01/media/imagejpg5.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c314/Tude_01/imagejpg5.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo imagejpg5.jpg"/></a>

Got it in the shop and decided while I do the intake swap I should shove a timing chain in it also-

<a href="http://s30.photobucket.com/user/Tude_01/media/imagejpg2.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c314/Tude_01/imagejpg2.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo imagejpg2.jpg"/></a>

<a href="http://s30.photobucket.com/user/Tude_01/media/imagejpg1.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c314/Tude_01/imagejpg1.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo imagejpg1.jpg"/></a>

<a href="http://s30.photobucket.com/user/Tude_01/media/imagejpg3.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c314/Tude_01/imagejpg3.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo imagejpg3.jpg"/></a>

When I got the timing chain on I decided to turn the motor, the lower gear broke a tooth off, after I got the new one off I realized the bottom gear had 2 cracks in it and the chain didn't go into the teeth all the way around correctly. And to top it off when the top gear came off so did the end of the cam. So figured ok, cam swap.... Do the problems end there.... Nope

<a href="http://s30.photobucket.com/user/Tude_01/media/imagejpg12.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c314/Tude_01/imagejpg12.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo imagejpg12.jpg"/></a>

<a href="http://s30.photobucket.com/user/Tude_01/media/imagejpg11.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c314/Tude_01/imagejpg11.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo imagejpg11.jpg"/></a>

So here it sits awaiting parts... I figured while it's apart I'm gonna fix some of the rust it has.

<a href="http://s30.photobucket.com/user/Tude_01/media/imagejpg9.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c314/Tude_01/imagejpg9.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo imagejpg9.jpg"/></a>

<a href="http://s30.photobucket.com/user/Tude_01/media/imagejpg10.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c314/Tude_01/imagejpg10.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo imagejpg10.jpg"/></a>

More to come soon.....

Well, I can see why you wanted it, you had too much free time on your hands! No really, it's a nice truck. glad you got it. Are you sure the bottom end is strong? Want ever be easier to find out than it is now.

Just think, if you just used a little carb cleaner, you could still have been driving it! Ha Ha! Welcome to the land of mis-Fridge toys!

Well I took it to our shop to put it on the lift (about a 5 mile drive) then the carb issues started. And I figured rather than tinker a day here, and a day there. Just fix all I knew at one time.

The intake I had on hand. It was on my 79 for about 2 thanks of gas then the motor came back out due to a warped head ( awaiting the head studs as we speak and it should be good to go with a tunnel ram).

Fixing the rust.... It was gonna happen sooner or later.

As far as the free time on my hands.... Not really, we farm and about the only things we got going on now are feeding the cows and when we sell corn/beans when we have to sweep the bins out. And the rest of my time go to a 5 year old who loves wrenching.

Glad you are taking time to enjoy the five your old, my little boy is turning 37 this year, they grow up quickly. I was just looking at your area on google map, very nice. Here in upstate NY, it use to be mostly all dairy farms when I was a kid but many have taken the buyouts and folks from downstate, commonly known as citdiots have bought up much of the lands and you know the rest of the story.

Talking Chasing a 59?

Nice truck but...looks different than my 59. You must have a 60 hood and grill. Check your VIN. Happy New Year.

The hood, front and side hood emblems are from a 1960 as is the two piece grille.

The 5th digit of the VIN is the year: 9 = 1959 / 0 = 1960.

Nice truck.... love the big back window. Just picked up a new to me 57 with a big back window and a long box. I hope when I get mine down here to the house this spring my motor 292-suposed 312 is in better shape than your motor was. I have the typical rust in the floor pans on the drivers side. All will be fixed in due time. Good luck with your truck.

Ya I've been told it's a 60 style grill. I haven't had time to look at the vin yet, too many other irons in the fire. The title says 59 on it though.

Well took the broke cam and timing chain back to orielies.... The manager said "what do you want me to do about it" very snotty. And it was their parts fault as too why the cam broke, I feel they should fix it. Looks like from here on out napa and car quest gets all my business. When I walked out I was so mad I about threw the cam through the front window.

Good you have plenty of steel. Kind of a pain to get to it but the steel in steel 55 gallon drums works pretty good too.

Ya barrels work great if you can find them.

I like flat steel it's easier to start with. And we have 3 that are just for parts I can rob from.

Hopefully tommarow I'll have most of the front welded up. But I don't get as much shop time as I wish I did.
