We have some ice up this way. My wife called earlier and said be careful if I have to go somewhere. The end of our road is a steep hill with a stop sign at the bottom. She said as she started down it, she knew she wasn't going to be able to stop, so she just hit the horn and slid right through the intersection. Luckily no one was coming!
We don't have ice here. It's been raining a good part of the night, and the sun had warmed the roads enough to prevent freezing. We have a sidewalk that froze for a little while right after dark (the sun never hits it in the winter) but it thawed sometime last night.
I had a fun time coming home at midnight Sunday. It was raining a little and the temp at work was 36* So I tore off for home and went uptown to Latonia see if Gold Star Chili was open. It wasn't so I went on up the road a bit them swung around a block or two and back onto route 16. I noticed at the stop signs my truck was slipping and I thought it was the transmission so I decided to go straight back to the house.
I went up the steep hill across from St. Anthony Church to go around my block and as I was going up it was slipping again so I put it in 2nd, same slip/ jumping going on even in 1st but still climbing the big hill. Until I got to within 10 foot of the top and then the rear end swung out and into the curb. That's when I realized it was frozen and not my tranny slipping.
I had to back all the way back down while trying to keep it from skating off and through the intersection below.
Drove back down the road to go around the block the other way and took a run at that hill and made it up to my house altitude wise and hit bad ice again. Slid it off the road and into the ditch out front and just left it for the night.
Good times !!!!
I live across the street and down one house from Houstons.
Yeah the truck came right out as it was pointing downhill.
My parts pile is getting bigger for this truck. I need some serious wrench time... I hate this cold weather. My front Bilsteins came in Monday.
From what I can tell without removing the wheels my rotors and pads are OK but I want to repack the bearings before taking it for new tires. I have almost 55,000 on the bearings, rotors and pads up front now. Next decent day I'm pulling the front wheels and addressing those issues.
I also have an extended tranny pan for it to go on.
I'm debating on giving the cooling system all new hoses as the ones in there are looking crappy. Does anyone sell a complete kit?
Still have the new fuel bowl and pump to put in.
I might go ahead and add the exhaust back pressure delete to it and new up pipes while I'm at it. Which means I might as well rebuild the turbo itself and possibly step up the compressor wheel. I'm a little in the fog with that part still, need to do more info gathering. This is getting expensive....
I wish we had a rent -a-garage around here. I just don't trust any mechanics anymore. The ones I would trust are not going to use the parts I bought and want to charge me $100 an hour probably.
If you've ever seen a blue 02 F250 Crew Cab in front of your house, that was me picking up my kids from Houstons!
I do have a friend out the AA Hwy that specializes on PSD's. He's near the Bracken/Pendleton County line. If you're interested, let me know and I can PM you his number.
Ken, our trucks are a little updated from yours, but are still antiques when compared to the new ones!
Well, if I was near Somerset, I'd be tempted to invite myself to your party to test your wings!
Actually, we don't watch football much here. If someone has a Superbowl Party, we might go depending who is having it, and the time. It really isn't celebrated in our house. Our 2 watched teams here are the UK Wildcats and the Cincinnati Reds.
