I am curious as to what you guys would consider spending on a seat for your truck. We are all "enthusiasts" and are not the average joe who think of a truck as just a truck.
I am wanting a NICE 40-20-40 for the BACK of my one Crew cab. The broil is I have the rare blue interior and finding ANYTHING in blue is a PITA, no less a NICE 40-20-40.
Well I found one today and the guy wants $700 for it. It is just me or is the guy insane? It is NOT perfect(wear and minor cigarette burns)
i would never pay that kind of money ... then again, i am a total cheapskate ... when i bought my 89 i only paid 800 for the whole truck ... roadworthy and running great.
what about getting yours professionally re-covered ... my guess is that it might cost less than 700.
IF the seats were PERFECT I would pay 800. But they are not and it would take at least 400 to get them there. I would not spend more than 400 for them
My truck has rear bench, i want to put 40-20-40 in it place. SO That means I need s 40-20-40(I have several but red and gray) Which does me no good for the plastic trim(needs to be blue)
I am cheap too but I will spend copious amounts of money on my trucks. And since I will NEVER get rid of this truck, it is money well spent
I'd rather sit on a plywood box screwed into the floor than pay 700 bucks for a seat. But if that's all you're missing to make your truck "finished" maybe 500 but you could get three all new single seats for that kind of money. And with a little work be similar to the same look.
Is the guy interested in anything you might have and be willing to trade? See if you can offer him some parts that he might need/want and at least knock some money off his asking price if not make it a deal outright.
The only thing I can think of that even closely relates is when I spent $500 plus shipping for a NOS grill for my 64 Rambler Ambassador. Something I still prefer not to think too much about.
Was it worth it. Well, yeah. It was the piece I wanted and it was the only one I have ever found. And it was perfect. And I still have the car 10 years later. And I have enjoyed driving it very much. Still, I probably paid double what I should have.
If you are close by and can make the deal in person, don't underestimate the value of cash on the table. You might easily shave a couple hundred off that price. Sounds like he may know you need the piece and is holding you hostage for it. I don't think such a piece will be an easy sell at that price, but he needs a buyer and you need a seat.
I found a complete set of blue 40/20/40 seats and didn't buy them for $80.
Guess I should have. They were very dirty (farm truck) but had no wear holes or burns.
There is a red set in damn near mint shape for $60 about 20 minutes from me.
I'm thinking red seats in a blue truck.
