As stated unplug icp, and road test. If it goes away replace sensor and connector.
If its still there plugb the icp back in its not your issue.
Next unplug the ebp and retest, if it goes away its probably a bad vgt selinoid.
Thanks for your input. I found an extra thing to monitor. Vgt % demand. Basically around 50% it seems to be sticking or that's were it is stuck. If I take off very slowly the demand is high and you can watch boost build very slowly and if it needs high boost I can't get it. When going down the highway it needs about 50% on the vgt and as it demands more when going up hill you can watch demand go up and boost drop off and exhaust pressure rise because the vgt is not opening creating back pressure and not spooling up the turbo and if it gets bad enough its surges just like a turbo air compressor with less than min amps while loaded. Doesn't always do it because if I can get RPM's up and demand it down around 40 it seems like the vgt moves and I can get boost like it went past the sticky point. I need to figure out how to get to the actuator linkage if that's what there is. Can you move anything to see if the vanes are free or at least see if they're moving?
this engine is insane. No wonder this forum exists. This didn't happen until my tensioner went bad and my voltage went low. before I start ripping into everything I will try the vgt relearn procedure. I can now see why it took several years for the techs to really learn how to troubleshoot these. Thank you very much for all your help.
04bad ford thanks for all your help. last night tried the icp and nothing so as it got dark I plugged everything back in a put the flash back to stock. Sorry probably should have mentioned that. Had it set to economy tune with a banks. Was going to do the vgt learn this morning and went out to drive very slowly to warm it up. The vgt demand was much different and actually sounded like boost was coming up by turbo whine. Decided to get on it a little. The Ex took off fantastically. Ran for about 10 min's and not a single problem. Should I still do the relearn?
Not yet , It may have been the ICP connection , if that's the case it will come back when things get good and heated up, keep heavy on the turbo to work the Veins there may have been some stiction going on . If it does come back at Idle do a wiggle test at the ICP connection , there is a grey clip that holds the 3 wires together you can separate the wires there will be a short white looking on one or all three wires, I'll post a pic of what Im talking about.
Ok disconnected the icp and it made no difference. Problem only seems to be there when hot. Also pulled out the vgt solenoid and it looked like brand new. Not that means much the mechanical side could be great and electrical shot. Ran with it disconnected and the truck still surges. Although not as bad. I want to run with the ebp sensor disconnected but I'm going to wait till the engine cools down a little. Kind of limited as to what I can pull apart since I'm 300 miles away from home visiting and need to leave tomorrow afternoon. Went and bought a new pigtail just I case because the dealer will be closed in a little while and tomorrow but not sure that going to be a problem. New vgt solenoid list is $403 or so I'll wait to get home and order one from Tousley or somebody else if needed. So I have ran with the vgt disconnected, the ICP disconnected, the egr disconnected and still all the same problem have also changed the ebp sensor.
Hmmm , Damit, one of two things now, Turbo or Injector. and with the Values you had for turbo kind of leaning that direction have you had the truck scanned for DTCs? maybe the Gauge will pick one up to help our thinking or drop by a Auto Zone some will do it for you and some wont. How did the ICP sensor look no oil out the connection side ? sorry if you already told us.
one more Brain storm just came through , look real close at all the Harness, these trucks well ford has been know for just laying the stinking harness over bolts and places to rub on. were's my double shake my head angry sign LOL
