Has anyone of the FTE brethren done One Piece Windows on their 67-72? There seem to be kits available for the 53-66 crowd but haven't seen this on our years (an article in this months Classic Trucks even). I'd like to do it and not afraid to be 1st, but hoping someone else has some experience(s) to share. I know there are many who worship vent windows and would never give them up, and thats fine with me. But I would like to have "the look" One piece windows give. I was into VW's for many years in Cali and this was part of any bug make over.
Havn't seen any, but I think it would look awesome. That's comming from a vent-vindow man. Besides, your truck is beggin' for one peice side windows. I'd love to see a '67 with that toutch.
I lived in the Seattle area over 40 years and was into the old VW's big time. You could say this was a while ago. The one piece window idea was probably OK in California but up there your windows would be fogged up 37 weeks of the year. If you didn't have your wing windows open the heat/defrost barely worked. Hell, it barely worked if you did have them open.
There is a case for the looks of the one piece. It doesn't seem like it would be terribly difficult to do. Whatever method was used on any other conversion of that type would probably be very similar. I know I'm not going to do it. The function of wing windows is too much to give up for me.
Why don't you just buy a new truck... they don't come with 'em

hey cacwby, i too have been searching for a one peice window kit for my doors for my '69 f100.
but also, im thinking of changing my rear glass from a slider to a solid, then i want to make that power operated too.
any info you come across, let me know!
My opinion, removing vent widows is bordering on sacreligious. Why would you go to all that work to sacrifice function for form? Have you drove a newer pickup without wing windows? If you need to crack open the window the wind noise is way worse than when you open the wing. And if you live in a colder climate it helps the pathetic heater these old trucks have if you open a wing slightly. You will freeze your ear off opening the side window. The power rear sounds cool. There was a company offering a kit for that back in the early 90s but it never really caught on. I think Detroit has offered it on some of the new crew cab SUV varients.

I suspect that there are internals in the way of a functional one-piece window. I've got a few unmounted doors in the shop, maybe I'll take a look and see what's in there. For some reason, I recall parts being under that vent window that could make it difficult to move up-down.
Now, If you wanted a one-piece, non moving window for your hot-rod. you could probably get a light-weight piece of smoke colored plexi :-)
I KNOW ALL ABOUT THE FUNCTIONABILITY OF WING WINDOWS TOO. IT WAS MOSTLY THE FACT THAT NOT EVERY AND THEIR MOM HAS THIS DONE TO THEIR TRUCK. THE REAR WINDOW ASPECT IS THAT ITS DIFFERENT AND I DONT REALLY THINK ITS GONNA BE TO DIFFICULT, MAYBE CHALLENGING, BUT NOT BAD. I HAVE A FEW IDEAS ALREADY GOING, BUT I NEED TO RELOCATE THE GAS TANK FIRST. ILL KEEP YOU POSTED...
I'm with willowbilly3, I think trucks started going down hill when they did away with wing glass and raingutters. Have you ever driven in one of the new Fords(I drive a 2003 at work)? You crack the window for a little fresh air when it's rainy outside and you get a lap full of water! So now you have to go out and buy one of those plastic stick on rain shields, or change you pants every time you get somewhere.
No thanks, real trucks have vent windows, rain gutters, and 8 foot beds.
OK I said I knew there were many who worshipped Vent windows, and they showed up. I forgot to say that mine are not very good, hard to open, pitted handles, etc. and when truck was put back together they weren't upgraded, so they either have to be replaced, or ...
And yes I do know what it is like not to have vent windows, We have a 2000 Ranger 4x4, 2000 Sable Wagon, and I have had many other late model Fords and Mercury's without. If you need more fresh air than the Air Cond. and Vent system can provide the trick seems to be you crack the Passenger side window, not the drivers side (and if you have a passenger you can wish you had an old truck with vent wings as you crack your side).
As to One Piece windows - it's a matter of form over function. Most of time I believe in both and it's a balancing act. My '67 was a functional truck for many years; towed trailers, had toppers, u name it, but it's retired now. The engine compartment is as shiny as the exterior! So form has won out over function. Our 2000 Ranger gets to go the dump now.
Thanks for feedback, I have found out that it can be done and I'll be doing it for sure this winter.
