Hi guys, I was wondering if any of you had any idea where I could find a front clip for 51,52 f1? I know if found they are big money but I can't seem to find anything that isn't a rotted mess like I already have. If anybody has any leads on any front parts I would appriciate it! Thanks
Dennis Carpenter has been talking about making steel front fenders for the Bonus Built trucks, 1948-52 but hasn't offered them yet. I don't know if they are going to make them for both styles or just the '48-50. If they go through with making them I'd bet they would be in the $1200+ range, each. They currently are making steel rear fenders for both models for $700 each. The fronts are a lot more complicated.
Other than find a repairable set no one else makes them in steel. They show up occasionally on eBay but bring big $$$.
I saw one of phoenixcraigslist that they listed as a 48-50 and I sent them an email that they had the wrong year attached to it. it was for a 51-52. if you want I can try to contact them and see if they still have it?
Over the last several months, I've spent a lot of money getting these fenders done. And these were the best fenders I've found throughout the years. Just dropped them off today at another body shop to get final body work and paint done. Once they're completed, I'll be about $2k into them. However, if you're able to at least weld and have the time, then you'll have less invested. The $2k price is still cheap because I work with body shops on a daily basis and can get good deals on work I need done.
The first shop blasted, patched and epoxy primed them. I bought the lower patch panels and they made patches for the upper portion on the side of each fender.
HaHa that's what I'm talking bout. Those look really nice! I'm going to look at a whole truck this weekend that look real clean and solid! Keep you posted
I found a front clip down near the Mexican border about 10 years ago. It had spent it life in as dry a climate as there is, and it had rust just breaking thru in "the usual place". The lower rear parts of the fenders get torn by movement between the fenders and running boards no matter what.
Truck appears to have original paint with a patina that has very little paint left on the truck at all? See what happens I know pictures and in person are two whole different things
Whenever someone sees some of the old iron I've patched together they almost always tell me I could have saved a lot buying better parts from the warmer, drier areas of the country. It's true, it sure is nice to start with nice, solid parts but I doubt if you can ever find pieces that don't need some work no matter where it comes from, especially after 60+ years of use and abuse. My time to fix the old iron costs me but shipping parts from other parts of the country costs a small fortune and then you still have to put work into it. I also like working on rusty metal to see if I can bring it back to usefulness. I also hate seeing any old iron with potential being sent to China.
48-50 front fender patch panel question for you experts
I am trying to repair a set of bad front fenders for my 49 F1 ford truck build and got the lower patch panels for the rear bottoms of both front fenders but I thought someone somewhere sold another patch panel for the center of the fender also ?? Have you seen any of these offered anywhere ??
Thanks
Brad
