Data Plate Decode Confusion
I need a new plate since mine has been “cleaned” by the PO and all black now. I started to look up data plates and found my HP rating looks odd. Not that important since that engine is long gone but I am curious about it. I also don’t see anything for the production code.
My truck originally came with “V” code engine. Everything I see says the HP rating was 167@4400. My data plate says 143@4000.
The production code is 25L-800. What does this mean?

Could you post a picture of the full data plate? Is this from the door post? What is the complete vehicle serial #?

My flathead is the 100-HP 8BA, but the rating plate says 96 "Certified Net" HP. I think it's a ratings game, advertised gross HP vs. SAE Net.

My 226 6 cylinder is 95 mega horsepower. But the rating plate says 87 at 3100 rpm.

Ford geared them low to make up for the lack of HP.

I'd have to go out to the shop and look, but I don't remember my rating plate having raised characters?

I found a couple of data plates with the same HP rating so it seems that it is pretty common.
What does the production code mean?

That's your scheduled build date and rotation number. 25 November, 800th unit produced that day.

Notice the plate says CERT
NET HP 143 @ 4000 net RPM
167 is the
gross HP @ 4,400 gross RPM

That makes sense, thanks! My plate didn't have any of the titles on it.
I also found this one. Seems like an odd production code too. Maybe it's a replacement plate with incorrect info.
