So there I was minding my own business when I decided to fix the misfire on #1 cylinder. Pulled the COP and plug to find that maybe someone had dropped the plug and didn't check the gap. Runs fine now. But I pulled the air filter and related parts off just to check everything. Looked at the throttlebody and it's pretty grungie in there behind the valve. Didn't surprise me too much with 266,000 on it. Probably never been cleaned. What I'm wondering about is the little sticker that says the TB has a special coating on it. If I hose this down with carb cleaner will it hurt it in some way? Did it on my 92 and was OK. Any help or thoughts would be great. Thanks.
JWC, thanks for the reply. Was that a soak it in Seafoam thing or dump some down it's throat sort of deal. I've had good success dumping it on my 48 and 92 but I'm a bit worried about all these sensors and whatnot. Maybe I'll just pull it off and get the toothbrush out. What do you think?, inquiring minds want to know.
I use the seafoam and a brush kit I bought off the Cornwell truck .I often remove the throttle body for a thorough cleaning . I have yet to have an issue . I saved a few DBW throttle bodies that way . A good clean and a relearn can save some $$$ on them often .
