Yesterday I was driving down the road and when i came to a stop sign I pressed the breaks and the engine died. Took a few trys to get it started again. Drove another mile and hit the breaks engine died again. first though was that the break booster was bad and sucking away all the vacuum. I plugged it up with some tape. started right up and drove 2 miles to work. The truck sat for 3 hours. When I came back it would turn over but wouldn't start. I towed it home last night. This morning I pulled a spark plug and tested it for spark nothing. checked the ohms on the coil. It wasn't constant kept dipping and spiking. There was 11.6 volts to the coil (battery is dying from trying to crank it over the night before.) went to the store and got a new coil. plugged it in and still wont get spark from the coil. I have recently (5 months ago) replaced the distributor and ICM. any ideas? its a 1994 with a 5.0.
pulled the IMC and Distributor because it seems that these three things everyone is thinking is IMC, PEP, and Coil (all of this is under warranty so why not?) Went to the store and had the IMC tested. it was bad failed every test. got a new one. Gonna throw all of this back in and ill have an update.
well I took the battery off to charge it easier. I put it back in and it started up and ran rough. exhaust was smoky (probably flooded it trying to start it and checking plugs at some point???) got out pulled the spout and tried to adjust the distributor and it died. tried to start it back up and nothing. last night i got a transmission temp out of range code (koeo). probably because it was cold. ill check the codes again.
