Hi, Im getting ready to put some tires on my 85 fullsize Bronco.. 33 X 15..Any Suggestions? Im looking at 3 choices Good Year MT/R .. ProComp AT... BF Goodrich AT..I will be driving mostly on the street..but I hunt..and would like to play in the mud.. But mostly for the street... Thank You
I also am choosing tires--for a F250 SD Short bed.
I have been looking for awhile for just the right purchase--asking, searching and one day:
a trucker spoke highly of Aqua tread as they shed water in the rain and cause less hydroplaning.
So, I searched and found that they are called Goodyear ATS and are 10ply--which makes them an E rated tire(very strong.)
They have dual water channel to wisk rainwater away.
I want the truck to look bold with a wider footprint but not a taller profile as someday it will carry a slide on camper. These tires are 31.7inches in diameter with a 10.5inch width.
This is the same diameter as the 235 tires so the truck wont sit higher. But the footprint will be wider(and for me safer)
The tire is LT265/75/16E with black letters and are rated at 3415 pounds at 80psi.
I'd say go with Cooper Discoverer A/T's. They're siped real good for wet road traction and they have a spaced out tread that does well off-road. They also clean the mud out real quick. I really like the ones I have. I can't wait to get them in the snow this year.
PJ Dirt Grips for a "mostly for the street" application? They'd be great when he does hit the mud, but wouldn't they wear really fast (and be quite loud) on the street?
Seems like MT/As would be a practical, though unexciting choice...the tirerack reviews of them are great...
The only drawback to BFG ATs is the hydroplaning. They are a damn good tire though. I would look into Michelin LTX ATs. If you check my profile, the second picture shows the tread. Very smooth ride, quiet ride, superior sidewall strength....and 50K+ miles out of them average.
I have run 35" BFG ATs, and they do hydro. Im not saying it will be like youre riding in a boat, but they dont have the proper direct channeling to move vast amounts of water quickly. Have you posted to the bronco forum? They can give you some good choices as well.
I never had a hydroplaning problem with any of the BFG A/T's I had on several different vehicles, and living in the great Pacific Northwest, I've driven through lots of water. I thought they were the greatest tires around until I tried the Michelin LTX M/S. What a great tire. Now I've got a set of Big O Big Foot A/T's that are just as good.
