Guys after our test driving we discovered a pretty good oil leak coming from the oil filter connection port. We had to change the oil anyway so we did that and replaced the filter. By "we" I mean my son, because I had to leave town on business . Anyway, when my son replaced the oil filter (same size, same brand--wix I think) now he says it won't fully seat. He can get a dozen good turns, and a little more cranking down on it hard, but then it leaves a little less than a quarter inch gap between the top of the oil filter canister and the surface of the engine block. He says it still drips oil. Not the gusher we had yesterday, but still dripping. We have a '70 351W. Should that filter settle in there better than that? Is there some spec or size issue we don't know about? Any help is much appreciated!!
I would look and see if you don't have a old filter gasket stuck to the block. It is not uncommon for one to stick to the block and when you screw the new one on it will not seal with the two gaskets and will space out the filter the thickness of the old gasket.
