Well, this morning going out for breakfast and noticed my engine light came on. Went to the Ford Dealership and nobody there to check as the diesel service not open today, Saturday. I have 188,000 kms on it and checked the manual. Wonder if it is the clean DPF? Says in the book at 193,000 to 240,000 kms to get it cleaned? I do mostly highway driving as high mileage and it is a 2011. So have to drive it until Monday (He said I would be okay if it is driving okay now.) And actually thinking of trading my first ford in as maintenance is expensive on these trucks. Brakes, two alternators, two batteries, just in the last few months. I do take good care of the truck though. Early oil changes and makes sure all service is done. Hope I don't get stranded. Might drive about 30 kms this weekend. I worry about replacing such an expensive engine without warranty.

is there a car parts store around? Autozone? they read codes for free
Yes, go to an auto parts store and either have them read it or spend the $65 and buy the reader yourself. Get the code and Google it.
Also, you sound just as pessimistic as me! Chill out, an engine light is far, far from an engine replacement. Probably an injector hiccup, a faulty sensor somewhere, or just a glitch in the system.
I have gotten well over 200,000 miles from dpf filters, you should be completely fine there.
You could always take the cables off of both batteries and see if the light will go out. Get it read for free first though.
If you remove the cables off of both batteries the light will most certainly go out..........the question is will it come back on when the cables are hooked back up.
Sorry, I tried to resist, but the devil in me came through and won out in the end.

No..I should have added that it might come back. But I was thinking that if it was just a one time thing it may have self resolved.
The engine light came on Sat. morning but went off Sat afternoon and remained off. Took it to the Dealer Monday morning and they read the code saying the DPF pump is failing. So another pump is $900 plus and they will have to check the rest of the system. They said it is reading low pressure. This is my first Ford and I am going to have to sell the truck. Getting too expensive to maintain. Have 188,000 kms on it but the last while have been putting thousands into it. Just had to replace two batteries and two alternators a few weeks back too! Will see how much $ this new fix will cost and in the spring will put the truck for sale. Let's hope $900 is the only cost for now and I don't get hit with extras failures in the meantime.

I've had that happen before, it's a PIA. I was originally quoted much more than you, but got really lucky when Matt (Tofan) on FTE sent me his DEF assembly, and I only paid the cost of labor. You could apply for goodwill from Ford, ask your service manager about doing so. It won't cover it all but it will help if they give it to you.
Yeah, those things aren't cheap. Just be mindful that GMC and Dodge have DEF pumps to deal with as well in their diesels when you decide to upgrade.
Yea, I know and this is my first diesel. Checked my records and in 2014 my maintenance costs is @ $4,723. 13 not including gas/insurance/tires & stuff. Just oil changes, filters/brakes/2 alternators/2 batteries/DPF pump. It is in the shop getting the new DPF pump ($915.00 minimum) and then they will check the low pressure to see if anymore damage. I've had 3 chev trucks (gas) but never costs like this. Last 4 months have been brutal and without a truck for a few days to boot. Hoping this is it today but I will be looking to sell. Too worried about a $10,000 plus engine going or more damage. sigh

Have you ever thought about or tried to get an ESP? Either through Ford or a third party?
Ah, right, fair enough. Maybe you can add mechanical breakdown coverage to your insurance plan? It's just too bad to see stuff like this make people want to give up their trucks, though I definitely don't blame you.
Dude you need to ask somebody on here if they can do what I did. Some people might frown upon you "looking for a freebie", but like you said man, some of the DUMBEST stuff on the truck can be expensive. I for one wasn't using mine and felt no need to charge somebody looking at a pricey fix. We are all friends on here and should help when we can.
Les, I am glad the pump is working for you, I was just discussing it with my Dad(I am here in AZ for X-Mas visiting him) and told him that I would hope if I was in that situation and somebody had the parts laying around they would help.
