Hey guys its been a while since I have been on here but lately I have noticed im going through belts like crazy. they arent shredding or breaking but they start to squeak not to long after i put a new one on. now heres the thing, everytime i have changed my belt i changed the tensioner. and the problem went away but this time I changed the tensioner, and the idlers with an older belt and it still sqeaked. The belt was a napa green stripe, the tensior and idlers were also napa. I know its just a squeak but its very very annoying. also i did notice that there is some wear on the tensioner where you put the 1/2 drive ratchet. along where the back side of the belt just rides over. the truck also has dual alternators which were changed about 2 years ago or so and the water pump about a year ago.
Since you replaced the tensioner my bet goes onto the water pump. Do you know how many miles are on it?
Easiest way to check is to remove the belt from tensioner and wiggle the waterpump shaft up and down. Acceptable lateral play is close to zero.
WP is not hard to replace and can e had for <$200.
Get a new thermostat and MIND THE ELBOW while you're at it.
Note, you might not be able to see any play while the car is idling due to low RPM and fan clutch slipping, that is why removing the belt is a good way to check whats up.
in my original post i stated that the w/p was changed around a year ago. probably about 30 k on it now. and i did check for shaft play and everything checks out perfect.

AJ, are you paying for belts and tensioners every time, or are they replacing them for free? I suggest you try an OEM belt and tensioner. Riffraff has 'em pretty cheap, as does Tousley. I know that's hard to do if the replacements are free, but if you are going to have to spend money, anyway, it may be time to try something different.

I have to say since Tousley changed to Autonation I no longer recommend it. Ever since the ownership changed the website is useless.
Bearing that in mind the service over the phone is still excellent.
have you tried the Gates FleetRunner belt.. its a high performance belt for the 7.3L engine. I read about them from a guy and his wife that goes around the world in a ford diesel.
