1959 F100 Restoration Project

I have a 59 F100 that I just started working on after it has been sitting for a good 2-3 years. I'm new to working on motors and was hoping I can get any help to get it running right. It has the original 223 inline 6 that I want to keep in it but I'm having trouble getting it running. It appears to be a problem with the ignition because the engine turns but there seems to be no spark between the distributor and coil. Hope there's knowledge out there that can help me figure out this problem and again bear with me as I am new to working on engines. Thanks

Thanks! And yes it is, it's brand new, including plug wires and plugs.

Right on, someone should be by that can help you more than myself. The search feature is a great help, here is link when I searched "bad coil"-may have other information to help you out as well

Does this help?
Typically if you are not getting spark in the secondary, with new coil, wires , cap and rotor there is a problem in the primary circuit.

Good luck in your quest

Alright thanks. I'll have to check that out. I did just recently buy a new starter solenoid, that does make up part of the primary circuit correct? Maybe that was a problem? Thanks again. Please any input will help me now and in the future, trying to learn as much as I can.

Yes during the start cycle 12 volts are applied to the coil. With the key in the ignition position power to the coil is reduced through the resistor, keeping the points from frying.

A good investment for you would be a shop manual. You can pick one up on Evil bay either paper or CD.
Good luck and have a Merry Christmas!

Yeah I was waiting to buy one until after the holidays to make delivery quicker. Hopefully I can figure it out quickly because I'm dying to see it run. And Merry Christmas.

change the condensor in the distributor. I've experienced that no spark with a good coil .

I have seen the trouble be because you changed the condensor with a new piece of junk as well!

Points

Check if your points are making contact. Probably rusted or corroded between them.

Finally have it running! Initial problem were the points, changed them and condenser and fired right up. But now, when it's idling, it sounds too revved. I'm assuming that there's some wrong with the carburetor. It has a Holley 1904 single barrel.

Glad you got it running! glad you kept at it. NAPA sells a decent rebuild kit for the carb, sometimes it is better to just tear it down and have done with it. Just kept track of your parts and take pics for yourself and it's a piece of cake.

I have already rebuilt this carb. I doubt I did it wrong because it's very simple and easy to work on.
