Arrow sludge on fuel filter

I admit I have been lax in servicing my truck. but I have never seen such gunk on a fuel filter.

I strained the fuel from my catch pan, it clogged the screen to point nothing would drain.

It looks like fuel gelling from cold temps.

The lower fuel water separator must be full of that crud.

Normally algae is an almost black looking junk, but anything is possible. If it's above 10 degrees that certainly isn't waxing. I would look into adding a biocide or running a couple tanks of B20.

If it reappears then it would be time to drop the tank and boil it out.

Are you buying Fuel from a high demand filling station? like a known good truck stop , I would stay clear from the out of the way non diesel flow stations. at least you have a OEM filter in there

Yep Algae,
If comes in green, black yellow tan/cream and clear.

Even after you clean the system you should run some
diesel algaecide treatment.

Maybe a little over kill here.

didn't even think about the cleaning out the fuel bowl. secondary filter looked clean.

I will treat the tank of fuel I have not and see if slime returns.

Personally I have never seen any alge but black fuzzy looking stuff around here but maybe it is different species in different parts of the country.

What I am wondering is where the tree leaf came from LOL. 2nd picture.
