Yes very old thread. However since it's been revived, my super swamper tires and lift kit will not even allow my truck to exceed 90 mph on the highway with my foot to the floor.

At 90MPH, Mine (2000 5spd 4.2) sounds like it could explode and the vibration feels like it could rattle a feeling loose. I couldn't imagine being over 100 in the thing.

Busa01, BrianA said I should ask you about Taylor wires? He said you loved them. I started a thread asking what you guys are using for wires.

I've been 123 in mine and I couldn't feel a thing. That was on a perfectly straight road coming home from Houston at night. It was a VERY stupid thing for me to do, but I really wanted to see what she could get to. At 123 I was still baaarely climbing but I kinda chickened out and figured that was good enough.

I can't figure it out. My truck seems to have lost so much power since it was new. The only light that has ever been on is The ABS. Replaced the speed sensor in the rear diff and that was it. I have been replacing plugs, wires, etc. with no huge improvement. I thought the truck ran great when it was new/newer. Pretty surprising for a V6 in a full sized truck, I thought. Sooner or later I'll figure out where the power went. Sitting at idle, it seems to be running fine. Once in gear and driving..not very responsive anymore. Who knows.

My truck has never seen 100...much less 123.

You don't have a chip man. I do. The chip removed my speed limiter, so I can go much faster now. I pretty much blow by 100 MPH. At 123, I was still just baaaaaaaaaaaarely climbing in the RPM's in 4th gear. That was using the digital MPH and my on board tach. To perfectly accurate I'd say I was actually going about 121, give or take a couple MPH.

Keep in mind that when I was stock and had 0 mods, I couldn't get past 97 due to the speed limiter.

When I first got my truck it would hit 101 before smacking the speed limiter. When I got my new all-terrian tires, even though they are the same size tires as the old street tires, All I can manage is 97-98...

If that was intended as a joke then

But if it was serious then, no, you can't 'take off' a speed limiter. You can fix it with a chip though.

Aaaah ok...

A bit of a more detailed answer then. The speed limiter is just when the computer tells the engine to shut down when it gets to a certain speed. You can't take a limiter off like it is a certain part or something. You can reprogram it with a chip though.

Why is it that our trucks..atleast mine..bounce down to 94 or so before the speed limiter allows you to climb back up..My mom's 2004 Vortec V8 hits 100 and the needle just stops at it..rides smooth, but never climbs any higher. My truck feels like a lost 2 cylinders..??Is it like a fuel shutoff at the fuel pump or something?
