...and here's a pic of mine. I didn't use steel strips, I used wood splines and wood plugs over the bolts. Plan on filling around the wheel wells as well but yet to do it. Too busy driving it.
thanks for links! I've been wanting to do a "floating" floor for a while now as well...just gotta make the time. I plan on making cardboard templates for the wheel wells and transferring onto wood-that seems to be the toughest part I think. No steel strips as well.

Mine is not really a floating floor, I cut out the original steel bed and bolted the wood in place. Not using the steel strips gave me the freedom to use random widths!
