It just seems like you haven't seen the torque curves. The EcoBoost makes 5 ft-lbs less than the V10 did in my Excursion. Seriously, you should try towing with one, it feels almost diesel-ish with its low-end power.

Here are the torque curves of the EcoBoost vs. 6.2L V8.

That's right, the EcoBoost pulls harder at all points below 4,000 RPMs. Meaning the 6.2L would be downshifting more often.

Its funny Ford dumped a ton of money into a new engine line up and only work on a few engines they think are a honey hole and neglect any updates for a V8. Have they even done a single update on the 5.0L since 2011 for power upgrades or fuel economy? Way too many chips in the EcoBoost pile.
I've towed in the mountains with both the NA 5.4 Triton and the 3.5 EcoBoost. The 5.4 was gasping for air while the EcoBoost mowed the mountains flat. I think the NA engines are the winded ones.
I would guess Ford is working on the 5.0, both power and torque are up for 2015. There has also been mumbling around the web of a direct injected 5.0.
Check the used car lots or on-line ads. There are a lot of high mileage EcoBoost F150's around. Recently I saw one that had over 400,000 miles.

Tom,

I could be totally wrong! I just think that many years from now, fifteen or twenty, there will be more of the V8's on the road than the Eco-Boost engines. Like I said - I could be totally wrong. Obviously they make good power, but they are working hard.

I see your point. I don't know about some but I would not want to have an engine revving over 4000 for very long but that's just me. I hate having my 5.4L over 2000 because I might as well have a hole in the fuel line at that point.

I have test drove EcoBoost F150s before as well as the 3.7L and 5.0L. Never felt really any difference of course I wasn't trying to drive like a bat out of hell either.

I just think the 2.7L fake engine sound is very dumb. My R/C truck I have has an option to have a 900hp sound added in to make it sound like a real short course truck
something like these trucks.

At any rate, I'm still on the fence about EcoBoost. I mean it kind of hurts to know its going to be an option on a Mustang. I'd rather just get a supercharged Mustang at that point even though the fuel economy will suck, something about a supercharged v8 growl is really appealing to me.

I have not had my head in the sand.

As Frdtrkrul stated.... "kiddish" and if Ford wants to be kiddish, that's up to them. WRONG PATH in my opinion. And if anything about the Eco-Boost engines leads Ford into being "kiddish" it's obviously THE WRONG MOVE.

All I'm implying is Ford is wasting money on something like that. Just my opinion. Not sure who in Ford came up with the idea but if there was a voting on it, I would have voted against it.

As much as you think it was the wrong move, I think it was the right move. Love my EcoBoost. I would not consider any other engine on my next truck. I hope they put it in the F250.

The only complaint I ever had with my 2011 F-150 SC with EB was that it sounded like a Camry! Great truck and I'm in love with the EB. I pull a 4500# boat and 6500# camp trailer and the EB handles both effortlessly. At about 30,000 miles it started a distinct whirring noise on acceleration. Pretty sure it was the turbos winding up and reminded me of an over-revved Singer sewing machine!

Just picked up my 2015 and I like the fake engine noise. Its not overbearing and those of you who know what the EB actually sounds like will notice, but I don't think others will. For me Ford fixed my only complaint about the EB with the fake noise.

So let me get this straight. Ford ADDED a fake engine noise to the 2015 F150's?? WTF? I must admit I did like how the silo on my little people farm set went "mooo" when I turned it over when I was a kid. lol Why did Ford copy the Tundra front end??

My thoughts exactly. Ford has spent countless piles of cash over the years on sound management and now their brilliant idea is to add fake engine noise?

The '15 is a Toyota lookalike with paper tiger engines.

I've been on the fence between the ecoboost and the 5.0. This dumb idea has just about pushed me onto the 5.0 side. Unreal! Does Ford really think this is a good idea? What was the make up of this duma$$ focus group?

Have you driven the new 3.5 truck? I really don't see what the big deal is. IMHO, a bunch of concern about nothing. There are plenty of other real reasons not to buy the ECO trucks to be concerned with.

So I guess in other words, obviously the sound does not bother me! Nor does the reason they put it in the truck.

If that's the reason you choose the 5.0L you have a serious problem with perspective.
