New Harland Sharp Roller Rockers

I just wanted to say that I found a source for New Harland Sharpe 1.6 roller rockers .... for $225, and free postage. I'm going to buy a set as soon as I call HS and make sure they are not seconds, and that there is a warranty.

If not, $280 buys a set at Summit. I got a set of Crower 72828-12 rockers for a Chev 250 to be a little different. Can't remember why I ordered 3/8" and not 7/16" though...

I seem to remember the 3/8" ones costing over $300 at summit. Am I wrong?

The set you bought are 1.73 ratio?

Yes, I paid around $315 for mine. I got them in 1.6 ratio, not 1.7. I was toying with the idea of 1.7 but I was advised against it and figured I'd let the cam do the lifting.

So, do I understand correctly, that you bout Crower rockers for a chevy 250, yet in 1.6 ratio? I didn't know that was possible. So, in essence, you did an end run around Crower's pricing for 300 rockers, or possibly the problem of them not making them for a 300. Brillant!

I called Harland Sharp and asked about Shannon Engineering on Ebay, the guy selling the 300 roller rockers, and HS said he is a distributor, and that all his rockers are drop shipped directly from HS and are fully gauranteed by HS. $225, free shipping--I'm in!

I was told Chev 250 rockers would fit and have the same geometry as a Ford 300, so I ordered a set. I guess we'll find out how well they work.

Good job on finding the cheapest Harland Sharps though. I'm sure that will be appreciated.

I hope they work perfectly. The only reason I am going to the roller type is because when I briefly installed a set of bbc rollers my test showed that longer p.rods were needed. Instead of crossing the center of v.stem, it was wearing on the inside 1/3rd. Since I can't test with the oem rockers, I'm converting to rollers, also checking the guides while out. Longer valves=longer p.rods.

I was a beginner when I started this project. It has certainly been a learning experience.

If your head has slotted pushrod holes, you do not need guide plates.

If your head has round pushrod holes, you do need guide plates.

Well said, Trozei. I have an 81 or 82 slotted head, with the wonderful ridges in the chambers that severely shrouds my valves. Soon to be rectified. Anyway, if I said that, you must have the bolt down rocker type head? It can be converted to studs, according to a member on ford six.

Yes I have the lovely 86 head with the pedestal mount rockers. I'm gonna have to do a bit more research on this.

Well, I think I am going to buy directly from Harland Sharp. After reading many negative accounts online about Shannons Engineering, the co. selling them, I am happy to pay $50 more and get a 100% guarantee. Even though the guy said he gets them from HS, and even though HS said his rollers are not seconds, he clearly states that he offers zero warranty.

Buy from Summit and you'll probably get them within the week.

Yes, Summit is quick. But they are charging more for the 3/8 stud size than the 7/16" size. I find that surprising when HS charges the same. I'll call Summit and ask them for a price break.

On a side note all my gaskets, cc kit, spring height checker tool, and porting bits arrived so I can remove the ridges in my c.chambers. I am dying to feel the diff. when the valves are not so shrouded. Finally the engine will be breathing as I hoped it would.

The exhaust is getting an upgrade too: efi mannies with dual 2.25 pipe and an X, through a flowmaster 50. Black bake on paint on the mannies. All this with a new Saginaw pump from an LTD with Hydro brakes, and new braided lines, late model t.cover, a C intake, with a cool air intake system off an oem air cleaner. I've been tossing around the possibility of a DUI, but can't justify the expense. Oh, and I may throw a new cam in, the Howard's 263 from Summit. I believe that longer duration, along with a 108 LSA, should get me a lope and still give good hauling with low end performance and driveability. I got to hear a lope at idle. Audio ****. And ... I'm working on a new Quadrajet to sit on the C, all with custom air bleeds, etc. I'm also doing some youtube vids of the QJ rebuild to promote my QJ ebook, the quadrajet mpg secret.
