So my '92 E-350 club wagon has 6 6x8 speakers. Wondering if a 4 channel amp with the 2 fronts on 2 channels and side-rear on the other 2 channels would work okay. How about a 2 channel with a channel for left and other for the right side? I haul some kids for scouts around on trips and the HU just isn't pushing the back speakers very well. I may have busted speakers back there.
Would I be better of if they are busted to get 6 1/2 to replace the 6x8's for variety and quality. Not wanting to put in alot of money but need to pump it up some.
Speaker impedance is mightily important on any solid state audio device---like your current system. Is this a factory original set up or aftermaket?
Speakers and the amp pushing them need to be matched in order to prevent damage to either component.
If you add an amp you'll one that can/does handle different speaker load impedance. I believe most better brands in the aftermarket do accommodate a range of impedance loads for applications just like yours.
I'd cruise Crutchfield's site and/or call them---they're pretty helpful almost always. Free shipping too!
Yeah it's all aftermarket with new speaker wire run to each speaker. I'd be adding the sub. Was looking at the Infinity for quality and price for speakers and maybe their amp to power em. Really was wondering about a switch to 6 1/2" speaker over the 6x8" but I don't think in this system there will be enough difference to warrent a swap. Punch 6 1/2" speakers come with an adapter for 6x8 and 6x9 holes. Not sure on other makes. I'd read that the round 6 1/2" offer better sound quality because they aren't oval.
