Will not start back up after Driving
Will not start after driving
When I Put the ohm meter to the two post on coil I get no ohm reading 0.0 Don't know if that is open or shorted. Yes the book is saying 0.8 to 1.6 ohms on the primary coil resistance.
Thanks.
Thanks.
My DVM's show "---" for open and they count down to zero for a dead short. In other words, if you put the meter's leads together you'll see it start counting down from something like 99 ohms, dropping rapidly, and then taking a couple of seconds to hit "0.0".
If your coil has a dead short then you will probably have fried the DS module.

I did try a new after market DS box one day when it would not start up and it did not start with the new box.Don't know if a after market works or not on the DS systems. Would you know if I put a new coil on would the bad DS box fry the new coil? Sorry to keep bugging you guys on this.
No, I don't think a bad DS box will fry a coil. It could if you turned the key on and left it forever when the box was placing a ground on the coil, but I don't think that's the way the box fails nor that you will turn the key on and walk away for hours if it did fail that way. Instead, I think the coil is either the wrong one or has shorted internally and the extra load is frying the DS box. And each time you drive it takes less time for the box to fail.
Coils aren't too expensive, so with the reading you got on resistance I'd replace it first. The box can't hurt the coil, so even if it is failing you will have taken one positive step toward fixing things. Then, if the symptoms persist you'll have to replace the box.
Glad to help you like the guys on here have helped me.

Years ago on a 318 i had a similar issue. Mine would not cut off on me but wouldnt restart for a couple hours after i shut it off. I didnt know all of these tests then so i cant say if coil had fire but mine ended up being a pick up coil in the distributor.
In the light of day I realize that some things don't add up. Your coil cannot be shorted to the point it has 0.0 ohms and still work. Nor can it show 7V when running if shorted that badly.
So I'm now doubting the testing procedure. Did you have your meter in the lowest range of resistance? Something isn't right and I wouldn't buy a bunch of parts based on those tests until we figure out what.
