04 f250 4x4. I thought my front pinion bearings were gone so went to replace the but there was nothing wrong with them so pinion had some play in it so tighten it down changed all seals and put back together tried it out still slipping. What do I do?

Do you hear or feel anything when it's "slipping"? How are you testing the front drive train (is the rear drive shaft removed)? If you haven't already have you checked if your hubs are locked and in good clean and greased condition internally? I would think it would be easier to bend a crow bar in a sand box than tearing up an axle that's in our trucks (never mind the front one that only turns when 4x4 is engaged) but I guess anything is possible.
So not sure about preload or backlash but I did try 4x4 with out hubs locked so no load on front differential. Still made a clunking sound jumping a little when in gear. I thank I went in the wrong direction by rebuilding the front axle. I thank I should have went in the transfer case instead.

Clunking and jumping sounds like universal joints to me.
Dumb question, but are all of your tires the same brand and size? Just trying to rule out all of the simple cheap stuff before jumping right into the daddy big buck parts.
