Hello, my 56 glove box lid keeps falling down as I drive. I put new springs on it, but no luck. There is no latch on them I have seen in any pictures, maybe I should just put a magnet behind the dash.

Check the play in the hinge pivot, for excesive wear. The spring is the only one keeping it cloved

The only stupid question is the one that you do not ask.

Same problem! It's a pain in the ***! However I have seen some in bigger trucks with a key and latch to lock it, still trying to find them

The deluxe cabs in 53 and 54 and the Custom cabs in 55 and 56 have the locking "Dispatch Box."

Is your spring wore out and over stretched? Is the end of the spring in the correct place on the hinge?

I have a 56 Custom cab glove box door assembly that's chrome plated that I removed when I filled the hole in the dash (my AC took up most of the space behind the door leaving a shallow compartment not large enough for a pair of sunglasses) I also have the short box.

There really is not too much to it is there? I will take the hinges out and see if I can tap the hinges a bit to tighten them up and if it does or not, put a magnet in there as well. I wonder if a little dust on them for grit to stiffen them up would help. Thanks for your interest and comments regarding this problem, thank you.

The door has to go over-center for the spring to work. Can you move the hinges towards the rear of the cab at all?

Really! Wow, I am never too old to learn. There is an old PADutch saying that, "We are too soon oldt and too late schmart!"

I will have to look at my 56 dealer catalog again.

Unless chromed was a factory option, mine is aftermarket or custom plated (?) I haven't look at it in some time, I'm not sure if it locks, has a pushbutton or is like stock.

Perhaps custom plated, mine is also chrome as well as the steering column, so custom plated for mine I think.
